An all around shape is designed to paddle into a variety of conditions, generally allowing the paddler the most use of one board. These are generally designed with a round nose and round tail, and a generous amount volume to provide more stability. These are the most popular shape for their ease of use.
A touring board will be shaped with the intention of building a board specific to long distance paddling. This is typically done by creating a more streamlined shape, one with lower, if any, nose and tail rocker, and a shape with more volume to provide more buoyancy.
